Proposed Strategies for Teaching and Learning English Academic Writing at Higher Education Institutions

Abstract

One of the important and required skills for students at the tertiary level is their ability to write academically. Proficiency in academic writing is deemed important as it is the main medium of communication in the academia. As such, students are expected to have certain skills and knowledge, particularly the academic literacies where they should possess certain levels of writing proficiency, knowledge in their field of studies, and the skills needed in writing. Nevertheless, the teaching of academic writing has been acknowledged as one of the most daunting aspects for many ESL lecturers and students in the tertiary field.
